Probably not high on most people's list of possible requirements, but the ability to fine-tune the reference would come in very useful here - it doesn't need to be implemented in audio, merely the ability to very gently shift the frequency curve of a reference up or down a fraction would be very welcome!

I second this. At least if you mean "up and down" by frequency.
